I Love Malta and My Special Maltese Friend
by Maria Nunn
Malta is heaven on earth, a beautiful and blessed island.
My holiday to Malta was last March 2011. It was an exciting and wonderful one.
Me and my girlfriend arrived in Malta late in the evening. So our first impression was: "Wow!" … Malta at night is absolutely beautiful!
The next day, we booked ourselves a Malta Day Tour, a Jeep Safari, a Day Cruise with Captain Morgan, cruising around Malta and a Day Trip to Gozo, with the ferry.
The Malta Day Tour included a visit to St. Paul Church in Rabat, a visit to Buskett Gardens, Mdina (they call this city the Silent City) and Mosta Dome - this is one of the largest domes in Europe!
It was a hard, tiring day of walking but it was well worth it because we went to many interesting and beautiful places.
On the second day we had a Jeep Safari Tour. I was so excited that I was going to see the Popeye Island, that on the way there I sang the song "Popeye the Sailorman" together with my girlfriend and our Safari driver, Paul. Our driver was a very nice guy. He even taught me a few Maltese words like “Sahha” and “Jien inhobbok”.
We had so much fun and laughed a lot and so it was a great day!
People in Malta are nice and friendly.
I can say that because I have a special Maltese friend. I hadn’t seen him for a long time. I never thought that we will meet again. I am glad that he took some time to meet me.
We have the same month of birthdays, so I surprised him with a birthday cake and we celebrated our birthdays together. We both blew the candle and made a wish. He was happy and surprised. And because he knew that I love oranges, he brought me some oranges from their trees. I was happy. I found it very sweet and a nice and friendly gesture. It’s not the quantity that counts it’s the thought.
We talked all day long and time passed by quickly. Sad goodbyes are the hardest thing to do. But friends will be friends, near or far. Who knows, maybe someday we will meet again.
There were no more days left, so on the third day, we visited Marsaxlokk, the beautiful fishing village. I loved visiting and exploring this place.
I loved the colorful fishing boats and the views of the place.
There are many restaurants in Malta and every time I looked at the menus, I always found that Lampuki was on the menu! So I tried this fish menu and I like it. Maltese food is excellent. I miss the delicious chocolate tart in Mint Cafe.
I miss the Malta Bus too! Without it, my holiday would not be complete so I am glad that I have a remembrance picture of it.
I love the Malta bus, the people, my special friend, the fresh sea breeze, the island itself … so I will definitely have to say that "I shall return" someday.
