Highlighting the rich historical past of the fortified city of Vittoriosa ...
Now in its 6th edition, BirguFest has become synonymous with both locals and visitors, as the “showcase” that highlights the beautiful historical city of Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa) to the max!
If you'd like to immerse yourself into the rich history of Malta and learn more about old Maltese traditions and customs, then this is one festival you wouldn't want to miss!
This year the festival will be held on the 7th, 8th and 9th of October.
Join thousands of others and head on down to Vittoriosa for this fascinating festival!
Discover all that the city has to offer under candle light. Yes, you read right! For the festival, the atmospheric streets of Birgu will be candle lit! It truly can’t get any more evocative than this.
Enjoy traditional Maltese music, local and foreign bands and a Military Tattoo. Popular local rock bands Red Electrick, The Crowns, Cruz, Rug and Texanna will perform in the main square of Vittoriosa on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th October. Glenn Vella (a talented local artist and the winner of the Malta Song for Europe Festival 2011) will also perform.
What else can you see at this year’s festival?
An interesting festival which focuses on Maltese Traditional Games will also form part of BirguFest this year. This fun family event will be held on Sunday 9th October in the afternoon.
Simply wandering around Vittoriosa’s beautiful streets is enough to take you back in time and imagine how the city must have been in the Knights of Malta period … See important historical re-enactments, explore the city’s museums at a discount, discover this fortified city’s churches and auberges …
If you’re looking to experience a truly magical night, be sure not to miss the popular Birgu By Candlelight event on Saturday 8th of October. As the name implies, on this occasion this atmospheric city will be lit by candlelight! How romantic is that?!!!
