Malta Car Hire – some things you should know ….

What’s there to say about Malta car hire?

Renting a car in Malta can sometimes prove to be the best option. It is certainly much more convenient then buses.

Poor roadside conditions and crazy local driving can be a disadvantage but on the whole car rental in Malta is worth it since most companies offer affordable prices.

In order to drive in Malta, you must show a valid driving license and be over 21. A comprehensive insurance cover is recommended.

The Malta Transport Authority website has some useful information on driving in Malta.

Malta Car Hire: Rates & more ...

Rates vary but on average expect to be charged about €23.00 per day for a four door car. If you’re renting for long periods, you may be given a discount, thus making renting a car in Malta even more affordable. A cash deposit is usually required.

Most car hire companies have a wide range of cars to choose from and offer a great service. So if you want to spend your time in Malta efficiently, hiring a car is your best choice. You can of course still go walking or hiking. Why not drive to a secluded spot and explore at your own leisure?

Hiring a car will allow you to explore all the attractions in Malta in much greater detail. So grab that street map of Malta, and go for it.

Be prepared to get lost a couple of times though, since unfortunately, some road signs are a bit of a hit-and-miss :) Thus Malta car hire and subsequently driving on the Maltese islands can be an adventure in itself!

On the Maltese islands, you drive on the left. And although the locals seem to get away with their somewhat chaotic driving habits, if you’re a visitor, then you should really be on the alert (maybe even more then when you’re driving at home) at all times. It is not unlikely that during your stay you will see some local drivers driving recklessly without anyone batting an eyelid.

In fact, the locals are fond of pointing out that ….

“In Malta, we don’t drive on the left or on the right, we drive IN THE SHADE.” :)
