Malta Beaches

Ghajn Tuffieha and Golden Bay: Two of the most scenic attractions in Malta

These twin Malta beaches offer sand, easy access and captivating beauty.

Accessible from St. Paul’s Bay or Mgarr, the two most scenic of Malta beaches are mainly popular with young Maltese people and tourists.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Quite dramatic, with its clay slopes and cliffs, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is accessed via a flight of stairs from the car park.

A watch-tower built in the 17th century overlooks the bay. Yes, in Malta you cannot escape history – not even on a beach :)

The bay is a popular spot for the local image-conscious crowd, so be prepared to see plenty of designer swimsuits and sunglasses.

Golden Bay

A multi-storey hotel dominates the bay from its cliff-top perch.

A road and car park reach down to the beach, making access to Golden Bay much easier than that of her twin beach Ghajn Tuffieha.

This often results in making Golden Bay much more crowded than Ghajn Tuffieha Bay in summer.

The bay is in fact the most frequented Maltese beach after Mellieha Bay. Golden Bay or Golden Sands as it’s sometimes called, is also a favourite spot for bbq parties during the hot summer nights.

If you’re visiting in Spring or early Autumn, don’t miss the opportunity of taking a stroll across the bay and take in the natural beauty of this awesome bay.

Both bays have great facilities such as snack bars, umbrellas, loungers as well as watersport activities.

Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay are two of the most popular attractions in Malta, when it comes to sandy beaches. So make sure you get to include them in your photos of Malta.

You really MUST experience these two beautiful sandy beaches during your Malta vacations!

Getting there

Bus #347 from Valletta

Bus #652 from Sliema and Bugibba

CAUTION!

Sometimes, when the north west wind is blowing at a certain force, strong currents occur in the deeper parts of these two bays. A red flag is hoisted on the tower as a warning that bathing on those days should be limited to the shallow waters only.

Please take note of this and do not go swimming in the deep waters during these days, even if you are a good swimmer. Stay safe!
