Malta Beaches

Pretty Bay – Birzebbugia

Of all Malta beaches, only two are man made sandy bays. Pretty Bay is one of them (the other located in Bugibba).

The bay is located in Birzebbugia, and therefore in the Southern part of the island.

Birzebbugia is a small seaside resort equipped with many cafes, bars and restaurants along the coastline. The place is very popular with the Maltese, and in summer many move to Birzebbugia in their holiday flats or terraced houses and stay there throughout the summer.

The bay was artificially filled with sand and looks quite nice, although it doesn’t really compare to the awesome beaches that one finds in the Northern part of Malta.

However, if for your Malta vacations, you decide to stay in the South of Malta, then Pretty Bay can be a pleasant spot to go to after you’ve perhaps visited Ghar Dalam - the Cave of Darkness. The cave has many semi-fossilized remains which roamed the island over 250,000 years ago!

The bay is equipped with covered gazebos, a football pitch and a playground and can get pretty crowded especially at weekends. In the evenings, the area is also popular for taking a stroll along the coastline, maybe stopping for a cold drink, snack or ice-cream at the many kiosks and restaurants found in Birzebbugia.

Ironically, the bay is definitely not the “prettiest” from the many beaches in Malta, but it can serve as a nice spot to spend a relaxing afternoon at the beach, if you’re in the vicinity.
