Hastings Gardens Valletta

Small but lovely gardens located in the Capital of Malta

Hastings Gardens are located on top of the bastions of Valletta.

These small city gardens offer fantastic views of Manoel Island, Msida Creek, Floriana, Sliema and Marsamxett Harbour and its yacht marinas.

The capital of Malta boasts a couple of other lovely gardens as well, namely the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens.

The Barrakka Gardens are by far the most popular gardens in Valletta. From here, you get to see some of the most beautiful and rewarding views of the city's impressive Grand Harbour!

Hastings gardens make for a pleasant stop if you’ve been exploring Valletta all day and need to have a rest. They're lovely to wander in and are a perfect spot to admire Valletta’s impressive fortifications.

The gardens are named after Lord Hastings who was appointed Governor of Malta in 1824.

A Neo-Classical monument can be found in the gardens in his honour. He died in 1827 and he was buried in these gardens. The monument situated at the centre of the gardens, takes the form of a couch and Lord Hastings is seen lying in a recumbent position.

Getting there

The gardens are located at Papa Piju V Street, Valletta. They’re open daily from 7.30 am till dusk. Entrance is free.

A pleasure to walk around in Winter, Autumn or Spring, and also a welcomed refreshing break from the scorching heat of the Maltese Summer due to the abundance of shade that some of these gardens have thanks to their lovely big trees.
