Beaches in Gozo

Hondoq ir-Rummien: A charming small beach with a picturesque ambiance

Hondoq ir-Rummien is one of the most popular beaches in Gozo and as soon as you see photos of its clear blue waters, it’s easy to see why!

Hondoq Bay as it’s also known, is a beautiful bay situated near the village of Qala.

The coastline below Qala is full of traditional salt pans. Some of them are still used to this day.

A small bay, Hondoq ir-Rummien offers crystal clear blue waters and great views of Comino, since it faces this tiny island.

The sea here is said to be one of the clearest in the Maltese islands.

Hondoq Bay is very popular with snorkelers and also divers since it’s rugged coastline has some small caves at water level. The area is particularly suitable for beginners.

One of the most picturesque beaches in Gozo ...

The area surrounding Hondoq ir-Rummien is very picturesque and has many rare wild plants, although sadly their number is diminishing. (Make sure to take your camera with you for some beautiful Gozo pictures!)

The pebbly beach has a sandy seabed and is very pleasant to swim in. It’s a popular favourite with Gozitans for swimming as well as for barbecues in the summer evenings.

At the bay there’s a small kiosk which sells snacks and drinks as well as rents out sunbeds, umbrellas, etc. Toilet facilities are also available.

Hondoq ir-Rummien: Getting there

The best and most convenient way to go there is by car.

If you’re using public transport, take bus nos. 42 / 43 to Qala.

Hondoq Bay can be reached from the village square of Qala. Take the road east of the village square (Kuncizzjoni Street). This will lead down to the coast and eventually to Hondoq ir-Rummien.
